What a Place ID is
A Place ID is the text code Google uses to identify one place on Google Maps. Google's own examples include codes that start with ChIJ, and it sets no maximum length. One place can have more than one Place ID.
Google also writes that Place IDs can change over time and recommends looking them up again when they are more than 12 months old. See Google's Place ID documentation.
What you can do with a Place ID
- Build a link that opens the business's Google review form. The tool above does that for you.
- Use it in Google Maps Platform APIs, such as the Places API, to request details about the place.
- Tell a local SEO tool exactly which listing is yours, so a business with a similar name nearby is not mixed up with it.
For tips on asking customers for reviews within Google's rules, see the Google review link generator.
