A QR code that doesn't expire
Many QR code services send the scan through a redirect of their own first, and some stop working when a trial or subscription ends. This code holds Google's own review link and nothing else, so it keeps working whether or not you ever come back here.
The flip side: the code can't be changed after you print it. If your business moves to a new Google listing, make a new code.
Printing tips
- Use the SVG for anything a print shop makes. It stays sharp at every size.
- Keep the white border around the code. Phone cameras need it to find the code.
- Scan it with your own phone before you print a whole batch.
- Put a short line next to it, such as "Tell us how we did on Google", so people know what the code is for.
Where to put your review QR code
- On a card or stand at the till or reception
- On receipts, invoices and delivery packaging
- On table cards and menus
- On business cards and flyers
Sending a message instead of printing? The tool shows the review link as well. More about it in the Google review link generator.
What Google allows when you ask for reviews
Google's Maps content policy says a business may not:
- offer anything in return for a review, like money, a discount or something free
- ask only happy customers for a review, or discourage negative reviews
- require or pressure customers to leave a review while they are still at your business
So ask every customer the same way and let them decide. A QR code on the counter is fine. Waiting next to someone until they post is not.
Do reviews help your Google Maps rank?
Google says they can. In its help page on local ranking, Google names three factors: relevance, distance and prominence. On prominence it writes that more reviews and positive ratings can help a business rank locally.
Distance means your rank changes from street to street. To see where you show up and where a competitor takes your place, use our free Google Maps rank checker. It checks your rank from 25 points around your business.
Nobody can promise you a ranking, and neither do we.
